I've checked the outside connecter, and it has some corrosion on three pins, I used a wood toothpick to get it of.

Trying this new 120gb tomorrow.
Thank you for the hint!

Do you know where I can get a "new" connector?

Oh my ...
It's working! My 120gb non-original harddrive is working!

A very BIG thank you for your time and your help VorTechS!

Next step: cf-card with the ide adapter Wink
I will report back if it was successful

Awesome, so it was most likely something to do with the connector which supports my theory at least that these things are a bit brittle.
Great news!

Well, it seems that the connector is/was not the problem.

I did some "research", the ide controller inside the phatbox seems to be very limited.
It seems that he only understands ATA-5, which is fine (ATA-5 = UDMA100), but he can not communicate with ATA-4 or lower drives.

I've checked
  • my failing hdds (both ATA-4)
  • my failing cf-ide adapter (even worse ATA-0, which is unlogic as the transfer rate are way to fast for that)

Correct me if my assumption is wrong.

My personal conclusion is to use the new 120gb harddrive and to lookout for a proper cf-ide adapter. Smiley

So long, thank you for your time!

UDMA-100 is ATA-6 not 5 if I recall correctly, that said I think I do recall there being limitations on the disk that can be used (its been a long time since my memory has had to recall this).

Having had a search around I've found someone that did a little more delving:

The interface MUST be ATA, or Ultra ATA100 (133) or PATA....
