Solid state drive
« on: August 09, 2015, 11:30:32 pm »
Hi there,

Spend a day filling a 250 gb ssd mSata in a mSata to idee converter.
Creating a new disc for a hacked phatbox was no problem.
Used pmm to fill.

The disc is not readable in the phatbox.
Is there anything to do with a jumper setting? I didn't use any in my first try.

Help

Case update

Re formatted the ssd with fat32 format program cluster size 1024kb on msata to sata adaptor.
Sata was put in eSATA craddle.
On msata to USB adaptor to created a new disc with phathack software.

Used fast format without any plug-ins.

Disc created cussesfully. Put about 5 albums on it via USB to sata converter. After ejection pmm comes with a warning, not to be able to eject cause of other programs.

Hit the save eject hardware botton on USB in Windows twice to safely eject the hdd.

Then switched msata ssd to the idee to msata adaptor and tryed again in the car

It worked.

So Samsung 850 evo msata ssd in a msata to idee 2,5 inch adaptor is running!!

Now I have to start filling again.

Phatbox can handle as many as 9999 separate disc numbers, with up to 9999 songs per disc Number.
Total nummer of songs on dms cartridge must not exseed 30000 songs.

Case update 2

Now got about 1.500 tracks running. Phatbox responds ok.
Got some "corrupt track" problems to.

I found that Phatbox don't like strange asci Karakters in the file-name. Heavily compressed flac files gives problems to.

Up to 3.800 tracks running smoothly to day, about 30 % loaded.
Got a few warnings about not able to copy all the info to dms, concerning parts of id Tag concerning imbedded cover art.
Just ignored the warnings and continued copying.

So far so good.

Yesterday, I switched to my old newly filled 160 gb drive.

Uhhhhh "no readable disc"

I encountered this problem earlier, each time I started all over from scratch on a fresh created dms. Then building up data gain.

Could it be that the changed cartridge won't fire up instantly because the Phatbox has to build up an new index from the completely changed dms????

How long can the Phatbox be "dead" after inserting a new completely changed dms????

Maybe I should wait till it fires up???

Are you sure you can put more than 10.000 music files in the drive?

This past weekend I tried to change my old 160 GB drive for a newer, faster one, and by reading your posts I've put about 10.600 songs in it. With fewer songs it worked fine, but now it doesn't.

My experience says that the database cannot handle more than 9.999 songs. And I don't know why, because it's not a "classic" number. I mean, 8K or 16K may have an explanation. 10.000 loks like an arbitrary limit imposed at the time of programming. I magine that when PhatBox designed the system no one could think about putting a 160GB HDD in the car.

Today I'll try to create a new DMS (it seems the only way to solve the problem) and put just 9.999 songs there. I'll be back with the results. Maybe the number must be lower: should I count TTS .wav files or not? That's the question...

Regards.

Ps. Something else. PNMusic Manager nor Media Manager never complain about the number of songs, so it must be som restriction in the Linux part of the system. I'm afraid I'm not good enough on this to find where's the problem, but I'll try to have a look at the code...

Maybe we should wait longer for start up. The official manual says 30.000 songs (see my picture in the second post).
Biggest original dms was 80 gb filled with 128 Kbps mp3 are a lot of songs to, so with flac files the disc space is used for quality.
I encountered the same problems after adding more then 25 discs.

Yours mdp

Now I thing Phatbox is responding badly on using different hdd' sin the same car, as if it can only buildup it's index tablet gradually.

I'm not an expert on the internals of PhatBox, but I  think that the index table is created and updated by PC software, not by the player. You can see that only log files are modified after using the DMS.

I've suffered these problems with a working DMS just adding those too many files. Now I'm fighting against Windows 10, an almost died cradle and the new HDD. Anything (or everything) can go wrong...

7000+ songs written last night to DMS, no problem. Tonight I'll try to go over my 10K limit. I'll keep you informed.

So keep by one hdd and I filled about 100 albums at each time, then ejected.
It takes about 20 minutes to copy the new files.
Then safely eject usb drive in Windows to switch off the hdd and suavely eject. I took the affort to delete all the album art of the flac files on the dms to save space and prevent reading problem cause of big cover art.

9.600 music files. Still working. Tomorrow I'll tell you if it's there's still life beyond 10.000 songs...

From your last post I understand that you have more than 10.000 files in your DMS. Is that right?

I'm beginning to think that there could be differences in the firmware. Maybe the Volvo one has this 10.000 limit and other firmwares don't because of the Volvo HUs...

I am a bit held up by new loaded music to tag right. Takes a lot of time to get the tags right. I send Vortechs a pm on the startup time issue.
No answer till now. At the moment I am at 30% filled with 3.800 songs. I am running the latists Audi version. So fully filled end up at about 12.000 tracks (flac). I going to start filling again this weekend.
In this forum I saw members running on 250 gb and 320 gb hdd.

I'm afraid I can't help you. That's my story :)

I've just copied 100 songs for a total of 10.025 files to the DMS. Tomorrow I'll put it in my car and I hope it works, but I'm pretty sure it won't.

I even installed Windows XP to make things easier...

So running again on a new created dms. 600 tracks.

I quit..... Go further  after I get some respons about how to solve the "not readable disc" issue after adding new tracks.

Yesterday I waited for an hour on start up. Phatbox got stuck on a kind of loop;
Red led on, green led on blinking twice, all off then red on again enz enz

Today with the new dms I checked the first disc 'on autoplay to re start where closed '

Maybe you should close playing a song on the first disc, then take out of the Phatbox and just add new music behind this track?

Maybe a bit of support on this issue?

I'm afraid WE are support. i mean, PhatNoise was bought years ago by another bigger company that dropped the product line. All we can do i support orseleves one each other. VorTechS an SBingner could help, but it looks like their PhatBoxes have already gone. Anyway, our problems happen because we are using a hacked firmware, and no one is going to support that :)

I tested today my 10.025 songs DMS. It works! But... voice tags are srcambled. Instead of the voice announcing the song or artist I get noise or a piece of another song.

Anyway I'm not going to surrender :)

Yeah right, I found a place to download a new driver of the offical usb 2.0 craddle. I will look whether this one get the craddle working again on Xp. It stopped working after a windows update a few years ago.
It is possible to re-build your voice-prompts on hard ware options. I use Pmm v2.32 to fill.
Ssd worked fine today so let you know when I start filling again.

Yes, I think PMM 2.32 is much more reliable than 3.92, but it doesn't support using different languages for different files, and I have many Spanish songs for which I use Spanish TTS.

I rebuilt the voice messages yesterday, and I'll try again in a while.
