Problems with new 40G DMS
« on: February 07, 2007, 03:13:02 am »
Sorry to bug folks.  I've tried to search all I can but I'm stuck.  I've hacked my 20G phatbox. The patch log file shows 7 verifies. (I used the 1.0.3 windows scripts.) The original DMS works fine. I had to go through corrupting the ramdrive sig etc.  My new 40g wont work. I originally tried the newdms.bat file, loaded on some songs, and the 40g drive would just constantly reboot in the phatbox. I then dd'ed the first 300M from the original DMS to the 40G drive and repartitioned and formatted the PHTDTA partition by hand.  I again loaded songs on with PMM and still the same result... a rebooting phatbox with a CHK MAGAZINE error on the head (this is a VW 7.02 unit).

My bootload.log file on the 40g is:
Quote
BOOT0-0: OK
BOOT0-1: OK
BOOT0-2: Successful
BOOT9: Successful
BOOTB: Successful
BOOTF: Successful
BOOT*: Successful
(followed by a null and 29K of spaces??)

The only next steps I can think of are putting new firmware on this drive, but I don't see how that would help if it currently has  a ghost of a working original....

Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks.

dd'ing doesn't work because the partition table info is wrong.. the newdms.bat should build a good DMS... what you need to do is download the firmware files from downloads.phathack.com (then after extracting, remove the forceupdate / forcesettings files) and then I would suggest copying one disc of music onto the system to make sure it works.

Don't copy ANYTHING off your old DMS onto it until you are sure it works or not.

The bootload.log should be removed before you do any of this, and make a copy of the policy.xml or whatever it was called.. its the 4KB xml file on phtsys which makes a perfect starting place for a bootload.log

after doing that, if the bootload.log shows the same as you posted below (we don't care about the white space so much as what is written to the file in text) then its a software issue with your phtsys or phtdta files because that means its booted fully and the drive should work fine.

I got it working this morning... I'm a happy camper. I deleted everything off phtdta, I reformatted phtsys, I copied the system files from the download site.  I fired up P Music M by mistake,  It reinstalled the firmware (again).  I created one more playlist. Then I deleted the forceupdate.  Now I have music.

Thanks for the help!

Now I just need to get AAC going, I hope this is just a matter of copying the plugins....
