I've been reading all day... Fail to Hack :)
« on: April 06, 2007, 02:00:23 am »
Hi everyone! Need some help here...

I just received this morning a 160GB Hard disk to hack! I'm really happy since I will be able to load all my mp3s into my X5 PhatBox! However...

...things are not going good, I had started trying with the linux version, nothing, my new DMS doesn’t work (after loading the new linux file - then I was able to realize that the phatbox was never hacked)... so I stopped and re-started everything using the windows version.

Everything seems to be ok, there are no errors, I was able to load and run all the necessary files/batchs and boot my phatbox... hear some music, wait... wait... nothing... more music, wait more than 20 minutes and nothing... so I decided that it was enough time and decided to check at PHTSYS/log. In all my attempts I was able to find just one file, logshere.txt and no info inside. Repeat the procedure, read, repeat again, read... nothing..!

So, reading the forum like 3 hours after the first attempt, I found that is a common solution to corrupt ramdisk.sig, so I did it (backing up the original one)

My Phatbox runs the following sequence:
1.- Red light
2.- Green light, blinks slow 3 times
3.- Green light, blinks very fast for like 40 seconds
4.- Reboot
5.- Same again
6...20... same again

If you check PHTsys\log, same logshere.txt with no info
If you check PHTsys\bootlad.log can find the following info:
BOOT0-0: OK
BOOT0-1: OK
BOOT0: Successful
BOOT9: Successful
BOOTB: Successful
BOOTF: Successful
BOOT*: Fail

Replacing the corrupted ramdisk.sig with the original one will make phatbox to boot ok, and bootload.log will show the following:
BOOT0-0: OK
BOOT0-1: OK
BOOT0: Successful
BOOT9: Successful
BOOTB: Successful
BOOTF: Successful
BOOT*: Successful

but no hack, no log at all.

I think that I have read almost all the info available here...

Any suggestion? What can I do?

Please help...  ???

lol you would only corrupt your ramdisk if the box DOESN'T boot...

Run the program to copy the hack to the DMS again, I suspect your profiles.ini didn't get overwritten or something (DMShack.bat I think)

When it completes you should hear a sound telling you so, until then you should not hear sound since it's the startup sound...  Did you read the Wiki page?

Hi Sbingner, everyone...

Yes, as you suggested, I'm running DMShack.bat again, this is the info that I've be receiveing...

************************************************************************
Disk 6 is now the selected disk.

USB-HS TOSHIBA MK4018GA USB Device
Disk ID: 323AC94D
Type   : USB
Bus    : 0
Target : 0
LUN ID : 0

  Volume ###  Ltr  Label        Fs     Type        Size     Status     Info
  ----------  ---  -----------  -----  ----------  -------  ---------  --------
  Volume 9     K   PHTSYS       FAT32  Partition    260 MB  Healthy
  Volume 10    L   PHTDTA       FAT32  Partition     37 GB  Healthy

This drive will be used as the destination for the HACK process..
***WARNING***
Files will be copied into the backup folder (on phtsys) for safe keeping.

Press ENTER to continue or CTRL-C to abort

******************************************************************
You may now eject your DMS and execute the Flash Bootloader Patch
When this process is completed you should run the patchclean.bat

This will restore the backedup files onto your Original DMS
So that you can resume normal playlist operations.
******************************************************************
C:\dmsutils>

Checking profiles.ini we can found inside it:
[Default]
num_discs=30
startup_sound=/dos/Music/flactemp.flac
pattern=$TITLE$ - $ARTIST$
album_seek=alpha

[profiles]
active_profile=Default
enable_special_discs=1
enable_voice_prompts=0
num_discs=30

[product]
product_name=PhatNoise Media Manager
product_version=3, 5, 1, 0

*******************************************************************

I was able to find PHTSYS/Music/flactemp.flac, but....

Nothing happens! There's no voice at all, no log, nothing..!

Question: How can I know if the "firmware" that need to be burned IS in the DMS?

Thanks for everything guys...

Did you fix your ramdisk.sig?  if you corrupted it without the patch being applied, your box won't boot until you change it back.

Yes sbingner, I did....

TO EVERYONE, Just in case you are having this problem. The answer was so basic...

A few months ago, I modified phatbox.ini to search a directory and pick ramdomly a welcome prompt. For any reason, phatbox.ini have priority over profiles.ini, so the flac-hack file never ran. That WAS the problem, be aware, it will save you nights of reading!...

Thanks to everyone, in particular to you sbingner.

EZ.-

Sounds like we should update the patcher to modify phatbox.ini then ;)

Thanks for the info

Or make a note in the wiki that you have to disable any other startup sound entry in the phatbox.ini till the hack is done. :)
