Kenwood with viot advise please
« on: April 14, 2007, 10:01:03 pm »
Hi everyone

Iv been reading and i cant find the answer to my question. I already have a 10g keg with viot working perfect, but i want to upgrade to a 60hd that i have here, can i still use viot or will i lose it?

Would be great if someone would point me in the right direction with how to get started and what i need please.

Thanks

Beamer :D

I could be wrong, but I believe once your Keg is enabled for VIOT it should stay that way.  After you create a new DMS, you may need to manually copy the plugins directory from the phtsys partition on the original DMS to the new DMS.

It seems to stay enabled until you unplug it...

Anyways, if you have the right plugins on the new DMS it'll work fine -- but you may need to replace your aadec, check http://wiki.phathack.com/VIOT

the mods don't disable any existing VIOT.. but there are issues with enabling VIOT on a new DMS if you never had it before hand.

make a good backup of your plugin folder on your phtsys and you should be just fine.  Mine works fine and i've moved the unit around (unplugged it) several times and only used the new DMS in it.

Just out of 'PhatHack Media Manager' curiosity, who owns the SSA/VIOT code?

Kenwood or PhatNoise?

I know it's a plugin, and if it's Kenwood - I wonder if they'd giev us a
re-distribtuion license?  I can't believe PhatNoise make much, if any, money from it, especially as Kenwood dropped the Keg.

Phatnoise owns SSA.. they wrote the VIOT plugin for Kenwood a few years after the Kegs had been shipping to enable SSA features on a Keg.  So Kenwood got a license for it from Phatnoise I assume.

You also had to buy the VIOT plugin from PhatNoise, Kenwood wouldn't sell it to you.
