New HDD for Music Keg
« on: April 23, 2007, 05:45:56 pm »
Hello,

I just bought a Kenwood Music Keg (KHD-C710).

Through the forum search I found out that the HDD installed in the Keg is either a Toshiba MK1016GAP or a MK1017GAP.

Which 120, 100, 80, 60 GB HDD can I use so that I don't have to cut the rubber?

Because of thermal issues and because speed doesn't matter so much I would prefer a 4200 rpm drive.

As I read it is not safe to say that a Toshiba drive will always fit with the rubber.

Thanks so far!

Johnny

i dont think theres a list of drives that work with the rubber.  I got a seagate drive and it works fine with the rubber slightly modified.  Been working for over a year and a half now.

Rubbers are notoriuously unreliable, they always break at the most inopportune time... or... wait, are you talking about the rubber space in the DMS? my bad.  I'd just say buy whatever drive you think will work best, and chop your spacer to fit... or make your own spacer with silicon.

I'm using the Seagate Momentus 60G in a self-built DMS [built with parts from Kenwoodparts.com].  I didn't have to chop the spacer, it just about squeezes in.

Pictures from the rubber.

There you can see what you possibly have to cut and if you have to cut the rubber for fitting your HDD.

Pictures from Toshiba HDDs.

When you use Toshiba HDDs or your HDD is similar to Toshiba HDDs, you don't have to cut the rubber.

The second pic shows the front side with the pins from the side.
