I have read the boards, looked at all the files I could get my hands on, and yet, I seemed to have screwed the pooch.

Steps of stupidity:

1) Downloaded latest scripts from WIKI, backed up everything I could get my hands on
2) Ran DMSHack.bat
3) Loaded DMS onto my BMW 323
4) After waiting (possibly not long enough) I took the DMS out, and read the patch.log, it read:
BOOT0-0: OK
BOOT0-1: OK
BOOT0: Successful
BOOT9-X: Successful
BOOTB-X: Successful
BOOTF-X: Successful
BOOT*: Failed (or something like that, I don't have the LOG)
Here is where the stupidity came in.  Under a little panic, I decided to "corrupt" the ramdisk.sig.  As I later read, don't do this unless the boot fails.
Long story short, I got this:
BOOT0-0: OK
BOOT0-1: OK
BOOT0: Successful
BOOT9-X: Successful
BOOTB-X: Successful
BOOTF-X: Successful
BOOT*: Successful

I restored to a "good" ramdisk.sig.
I never got:
1) Voice confirmation
2) PatchVerified.log
3) Or any other log in the "logs" directory, except patch.log, contents below.
So I am unsure of my current state.  I tried restoring the DMS, running DMSHACK again, re-applying, same thing.
I DO get the log files to re-create, and music plays.  But I am unsure if it is OK to continue with the hack.
How can I validate if my Car unit is hacked properly?

Anywho, the NEWEST patch.log is here, below that is my previous patch.log
Any help/tips, poking at a stupid noob is welcome.

Your logs say that all the patches are applied

WebSurfinMurf

Thanks!

I ran the CD version after I wrote the message above, and I got the "applied" voice.
However, to continue my confirmation that I have bungled this upgrade, my hard drive is "ata-7", not "ata-6".
I didn't even know there was an Ata-7.....ordered another drive through new-egg.

judb

the ata command set version should not be a problem.  if it fits in the DMS and hooks up to the connector then it should just work.

it's possible that you need to clear off phtsys on your new dms via a reformat and then install the firmware again fresh from PMM or downloads.phathack.com and try that route.

sbingner

Any drive will work in it as long as it is Paralell and not Serial ATA...

WebSurfinMurf

Well, I got my new drive, worked like a charm.

The previous drive is now a 160GB "portable drive" for copying files.
I have no idea why it didn't work in the Phatnoise, but I won't dwell on it.

Thanks!

sbingner

I suspect the 160GB drive didn't work because you didn't replace the "linux" file on it with the lba48 version I patched...  it's available at http://downloads.phathack.com/sbingner/linux-lba48.bz2

If you have issues with .bz2 I could change it to another format... you can also get it from inside the dmsutils scripts, I think it's called "linux-lba48-nolog" there
