ok, this may be stupid, but I dont know.

I have a Kenwood Keg and a Kenwood deck.  I want to add SSA voices to my system.
I think I just read that the SSA hack doesnt work with the Kenwood firmware.  So I believe I need the VIOT module.
I didnt want to spend the $75, but ok.
now it seems I cant order it anymore on phatnoise.com

question is... am i stuck ordering VIOT to get SSA with my kenwood system?

follow up to that is ... if so, where can i get it from ?

look at http://wiki.phathack.com/VIOT

not VOIT

sorry about the typo... I read that first.  doesnt answer my question though.

judb

actually it does answer the question, or it should answer it.  read the whole thing twice and see if you see some instructions or something to follow.

that just brings me back to my original confusion.  I applied the Kenwood Custom SSA patch.  I dont see any difference.

Is it enabled? if so how do I make it work?
I am all new to this ssa stuff. I just want better audio from my announcements.

judb

use the scan feature of your head unit to trigger SSA mode switches.  There is a PDF that used to be on phatnoise's site about how VIOT worked with the headunit.  Dunno if it is still around.

If the scan button doesn't trigger a mode switch announcement then it isn't working.

i think its sort of working,  I can now change by genre or artist, etc.
which is cool.  but my main goal was to get better voices for the announcements.
now, I hear 'the current artist is' in a clean voice. but the voice to say the actual artist is still all digitized.
how do i reproduce all my announcements with the Good voices?

judb

That has to do with the voices that are installed on your computer.

AT&T Natural Voices sound the best to me.  Look for PhatVoice, install that and you can improve the voices some but you need to get a better voice engine than Microsoft Sam or whatever.
