VW Hack - Lost Voices
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:31:07 pm »
I ran the hack (successfully, or so I thought) for an original VW PhatBox with the original DMS. It ran on the PhatBox straight through, and ended with the announcement that the update was successful. However, when I use the PhatBox, I no longer have the announcements for the name of the album, genre, playlist, and artist. The system standard prompt is still there - "Now browsing artists - the current artist is" but there are no names announced. The PhatBox is still usable, but losing the announcements cripples the ability to find material to a large extent.

Any help you might offer would be appreciated. I have all the logs available, but don't want to add them unless I know they will do some good.

Thanks!

that would be firmware settings, not related to the hack.  If you have a backup of your PHTSYS you can restore it and it should work the same... if not, just look thruogh and make sure all your announcements are enabled

I'm using the Windows 2.12 version of the tools. Does that make a copy of the PHTSYS? If not, when you say "just look through" in reference to the firmware settings, where do I find these?

Many thanks!

OK - I seem to have resolved the issues. I don't understand how the firmware settings were scrambled. I also found that there were some problems with the music files on the DMS. All very confusing. I ended up resetting the firmware settings and deleting all my music files and added discs (playlists) from the DMS. I left the Welcome playlist intact, and then rebuilt the DMS with my music. Everything seems to be working fine again, which is a major relief.  :D

Thank you very much for your assistance!

The firmware update process puts the settings back to the factory state, I guess this is where the backup and restore feature would help if I ever get round to writing the restore side of it! ;)
