I noticed that, it isnt signed. "RoyalLin.ux" is the same size as the "Linux" file so im wondering if it was just a renaming job and those files are just there to be backward compatible.

Looks like that! Their contents are just slightly different. Maybe differing in a minor revision only...

QuoteWhat about "phat" (not the daemon)?

I havn't read anything about it here yet... "51" obviously means PB or DMS but it could also be the "startprog" ::) I'd like to know more about "testmode" and "update". As the latter uses some decryption there's possibly some private key in there. Furthermore it seems to be an unsigned file to be played with 8)

Just in case, Para

(Oops, just saw Firefox mentioned it already)

I take 51 to mean the 8051 microcontroller.

google search for phatnoise and 8051 gives these results...

the raisonance link gives some clues about the software and compilers used by danb in 2002 at least...

Damned, almost had a heart attack there  :(  the 8051 is definitely my favorite microcontroller (after the 8048 of course) but it seems as  though the 8051 is only being used to drive the head-unit  ???

Maybe if RoyalLin.ux doesn't check sig files because it's just used during bootup/keycheck, then copying RoyalLin.ux to Linux might be a way around the sig checking on the current versions, it might not run 100% normally depending on what the small differences are, but it might allow us to get as far as messing with hdparm or rc.sh, just to get some information.

So if the "51" is a controller for the headunit, and
the ARM controller is the main one, then is there yet another one for the initial bootup/keycheck/firmware update routines?

Here's a link that might have some useful info:
http://lists.arm.linux.org.uk/pipermail/linux-arm-kernel/2002-April/008686.html

Also google for "Cryptnotic", or crypt@phatnoise.com, the user name of one of Phatnoises coders.  He's asked some coding questions on some boards here and there, but nothing seemed useful to me except the link above.
