How do you connect phatbox for testing?
« on: March 05, 2009, 10:37:40 pm »
I would like to hook my phatbox to do some testing on the serial port.  Using a computer power supply for +12v how do you connect the phatbox.  I have traffic pro firmware so I tried pins 10 and 13 to +12v  and 4, 16 to ground.  The box turns on for 2 sec and goes to standby.  How do you make it stay on without a headunit?

Thanks

You normally need to pull pin 14 to +12 volts (use a resistor to be safe - say 1K or 4.7K).  That simulates the ignition switch going to ON.  Phatbox should then start up.  Remove the connection and it should gracefully shut down again.  I used this method when testing before I ever put the box in my car.  The pin 14 function does not change as far as I know from one firmware to the next.  It is a hardware function and turns on one of the on-board voltage regulators in the box.

Hey thanks S80 UK.  I attached pin 14 without resistor and works now.
