ok, I need some help plz. Formatting new DMS...
« on: January 26, 2011, 06:22:10 am »
Help please! This is getting frustrating... So I finally managed to get these tools to work, but I formatted my new DMS (Samsung 160GB if it matters?) to Audi firmware 7.02 with reflash box option checked since original DMS was 5.01. Load a bunch of music on there pop it in and it didn't work, switches to different source. Assumed from some searching on here that the firmware versions have to match, and thats my issue? Not knowing how to revert to earlier firmware version( thinking box wasn't reflashed?), I tried to reflash with the DMS tools v2.14 to the 5.01 version firmware. Creates the PHTSYS file, but then it hangs up on creating PHTDTA... Just sits there, has been running over an hour. Forced the program closed, wiped the drive manually using windows tools, erased the partition... Rerun, same thing. WTF? Why did it work the first time creating 7.02, but now it doesn't with 5.01?? BTW, in case you can't tell, I have no idea what I'm doing lol... All of these tools seem awesome/useful- just doesn't seem to be clear enough for an idiot like me to use. I needed some step by step directions....

What cradle are you using?  If it's a USB 1.1, you can expect the format to take a LOOOOOONGGGG time and so you probably just need to exercise patience.

As long as the green LED on the cradle is flashing away, it's doing its thing!

I'm using a USB 2.0 cradle... I don't remember it taking long the first time I formatted the drive ??? Guess I'll try again and let it just run...

So any clue why the box didn't get reflashed w/ the 7.02 firmware when I inserted it before? Maybe I should have thrown it in the box before adding any music or anything?

How long does this usually take and when do I give up? Has been formatting PHTDTA for four hours now. So is there something else I can do? Try a different version DMS tool?

The green light is still flickering.. and its so dim hard to tell if its really doing anything.

Well, that sounds very odd, and 4 hours is an exceptionally long time especially for USB 2.0

I do have a version of the tools which has experimental quick formatting in, PM me an e-mail address to send detail to and I'll try and package it all up.

Thanks, got it.  I'll package it up on Monday as I have no access to the tools right now.
