Whine
« on: October 07, 2005, 08:44:40 pm »
Hi. I have a 2003 Audi which has my Phatbox from my old BMW. It works great but I get a whine through the speakers esp. at higher volume.
When I installed the unit I could not get it to power up, ended up I needed to ground the unit to chassis, (the phatbox itself  is mounted on plastic)

I think this ground is where the problem is. Any ideas? Thanks.

sounds like your cable to the head unit or the cable from the phatbox to the changer harness is damaged somehow.  You shouldn't have to do an additonal grounding.. which is the cause of the whine I would guess.

There were some issues with VW's having noise that phatnoise had a fix for, you might contact their support but I'd check continuity of the cables with a Multi Meter if you can.

Thanks Judb.
Cable from Phatbox to harness is good, but from there to HU is the problem. If I disconnect my ground wire the unit tries to work (red light flickers)
I've got a RNS-e NaviPlus coming next week and I'll check behind the HU then.
