Storing you "music files" on your DMS ha
« on: November 07, 2005, 04:23:44 am »
I just copied my entire 80+ gbs of music onto my DMS hard drive.

Now since that music is "already" on the DMS hard drive. Can I just make playlists from the music and it shouldn't need to copy the music the the DMS since its already on there?

I guess what I'm asking is, since the music is already on the DMS hard drive it won't take any time to make playlists because it won't need to copy the music to the hard drive. Correct?

provided the directory structure you copied the music over to the DMS in matches the directory structure that the PMM sees the files as in its database... the answer is yes you can just make playlists and not have to wait for music to copy.

If your PMM sees a file in c:\My Music\Ace of Bass\Blah.mp3

and you copied the file over as P:\Ace of Bass\Blah.mp3

PMM will try and copy the file on the drive again.

(P would be the phatnoise phtdta partition. And I hope you really don't have Ace of Bass on your DMS. heh)

Well I made a couple playlists and PMM starting copying over the songs! How do I keep it from doing that?

I changed the path of the stored music files in TOOLS>OPTIONS>MUSIC DATABASE. But it still copied the music files again.

Maybe it's possible to just point PMM to your DMS as the source for it's database? Source and destination would then be the same.

I've changed the location of the music database in TOOLS>OPTIONS>MUSIC DATABASE, to read the mp3 directory on the DMS?

Is this what your talking about?

Is there any other ideas on this? I originally just copied & pasted my entire music directory folder on to the DMS.
