Hi,

I'm here to bring some new information to an old subject.

My newest achievment is a "Super Talent - DuraDrive ET2" with 32GB (MLC) of storage and an IDE interface. (Germany: ~50€)
I've used PhatHack DMS Tools to create the disk, put some music on it.

And it worked!
My PhatBox booted and started playing the songs.
Skiping songs and changing playlist is a tick faster than with my HDD.

The good thing about the SSDs compared to the CF-adapter is that the SSD-controller really has a UDMA-6 controller.
And not something that could be as fast as SSD, with no exact UDMA information.

I hope this is information is useful for someone!

Wow, sounds like an amazing achievement!  Some pics would be useful!

Hi.
I've bought the 128Gb Version of the SSD, what have you done to get the SSD work? Tried it with Phathack DMS Tools V2.13 but was not successful yet.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I did nothing special, created a new DMS (PhatHack DMS Tools V2.15), with the same firmware wich was on my HDD.
Filled it with some music. Done.

Just to be sure:
-Your PhatBox is already hacked? (So it will accept other disks than the original DMS)
-What do the LEDs on the PhatBox do if you plug in the SSD?

Edit:
I think you should consider updateing PhatHack DMS Tools to V2.15: http://forum.phathack.com/index.php/topic,5127.0.html
The versions prior to V2.15 are not able to download/install the firmware files.

The IDE protocol used by the SSDs that I tried didn't work - I expect yours is a better implementation of a stock IDE protocol or similar.  I suspect it will work or not based on the brand (and possibly the model) of the SSD.

So it's a lucky shot then? Damn.

Damn you PhatNoise for putting in such a bad IDE controller. :-\

I think I'll buy the exact 32gb drive and give it a shot.
Thanks for the info!

Just had a sudden thought.  The DMS tools applies the LBA version of linux based on disk size.

Could the problems be something to do with these adapters not implementing something around LBA?  (Probably talking way over my head here).

Hello everyone!

So I have tried something new! :)

This time:
-1x IDE-mSATA Adapter (http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_981_mSATA_62477/merkmale/2.html?setLanguage=en)
-1x mSATA module (any 3.3V mSATA module)

And it works absolutly fine! (For me at least :D)
If you want some more details or want to see it in "action" (in the craddle, booting, playing, ...) I can show you some pictures of it.

(My IDE-SSD is still working fine)

Regards,
Benni

Benni,

This sounds great, I would love to try this out myself at some point as I will be resurrecting my Keg for another vehicle!
What was the cost of the adapter?

The adapter it self costs ~30€, my mSATA module (16GB) ~20€ (depends on storage size, manufacturer, ...)
