You will also need the original kenwood music keg cable to hook up to the phatbox.

I bought a vw phatbox and the kenwood fm modulator KCA-R70FM. I installed the modulator installed the firmware but once i connect eveything the modulator doesn't reconise the phatbox and the firmware doesn't load (no lights on the pb).
maybe the pb is messed up or maybe the modulator, what do you think.

I have installed a vw phatbox with and kenwood unit before with a cable i made myself but its in my old car that my girlfriend drive now and she is away at school unitl xmas. So I can't test the phatbox for now.

It sounds like the phatbox is not getting power. If you made the cable yourself then chech the connections or if this is the cable from kenwood that you talked about on your other post then the cable could be no good. I would get a volt meter and make sure your getting power on the other end. if not the cable, then it could be the phatbox. Also the fm mod will not recognize the phatbox until the kenwood firmware is loaded.

I just test with a voltmeter, I getting 12v everywhere I should. So I guest that it would be the pb but I took the pb apart and can't see anything that has blowen, is there any way I could test it inside. I'm think about just buying another on ebay maybe ever a keg and try to sell all the extra stuff.

Did you ever get this resolved?  I am thinking about using the RF modulator in my Honda Odyssey as a control interface to a converted phatbox with audio direct wired to the auxiliary inputs available at the rear of the car.

the PhatBox (VW, Audi etc) has no issues connecting to the Kenwood FM modulator as long as you have the proper cable.

Yes I just bought a new PB and it worked, I think I burned up my first Pb by putting a larger fuse in the fuse holder on the modulator.
