Title: VW -> Kia cable??
Post by: madmike269 on July 21, 2005, 02:35:35 pm
My Jetta is dead so I'd like to move my Phatbox to my Kia Sedona until I get another ride. I'm trying to hold out for a year and hope that VW releases their version of the Porsche Cayman by then.

Anyone got a cable or pinout that I could follow to move it over?

Thanks!
Mike

I don't think the Kia has a supported head unit... is there a Kia firmware floating around that I haven't seen?

I think having a cable / making one wont help you out much without compatable firmware on the phatbox.

No firmware from Phatnoise, but I believe the Kia uses the same headunit as the Toyota's. How about an RF modulator solution? Is there a way to use the VW model with an rf modulator or something similar?

Thanks!

You can use a Kenwood FM modulator (update the phatbox to Kenwood Firmware). You will lose VIOT functionality. VIOT can be re-enabled  (see http://wiki.phathack.com/VIOT)

You would then need a Kenwood HU -> Phatbox cable (see http://wiki.phathack.com/Cable_FAQ)

Good luck finding a cable, they seem to be in very short supply.
