PhatHack

The new hack tools are now generally available!

After a lengthy development period and several successful Alpha and Beta tests of the new hack tools, I have taken the decision to unleash the new tools for the general community.

The new tools are (excluding DMS Disk Signature Backup and Formatting Code) entirely sourced from my own code and the updated code will be available on SVN in due course.  The tools are standalone application with an easy to use GUI and a little bit of documentation on the side.  I'll offer general support myself for the application (bug fixing etc) for anyone that runs into problems with the tools. 

Please PM/e-mail directly if you encounter any problems with these tools and I'll do my best to provide solutions where possible.

Check out the documentation for some work-arounds to some of the things that have, and may, crop up again.

I've forgotten my password for the FTP site, so for now I'm hosting the downloads.
Expect some aspects of these tools to be updated over time, I still have to finish the 'DMS Restore' functionality that you can see the toolbar icon for.

Requirements

Check out the documentation for PC requirements.  To be able to run the tools you must have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed, which is available from here:

• Added automatic device ejection on successful patch application.
• Added 'Flash PhatBox with Firmware' option to enable firmware switching. (Experimental, may cause your PhatBox to stop working - recoverable)
• Added 'Update Firmware' button to perform firmware updates only. (Unproven, and may cause your PhatBox to stop working - recoverable)
• Added 'Install VIOT' option to install Kenwood SSA. (This installs and works fine, if your data files are good that is!)
• Fixed error when no firmware available for loading.
• Added backup URL for Firmware XML files.

Version 2.5

• Fixed issues caused by WMI returning device entries with no signature information

• Fixed issues caused by WMI reporting invalid partition records
• Now generates CurrentSetup.xml.  PhatNoise Media Manager may now work with your DMS!

I just wanted to show my appreciation by posting and saying thanks.   This tool is helped me rebuild my DMS just now after mistakenly doing a chkdsk /r on it and screwing it up.  Where was this when I first hacked the drive?!?  :)

I would also like to say Thank You for helping me with my problem, could not have done it without you guys on here.  ;)

I just wanted to report that I used V2.10 on my VW phat and it worked perfectly! It patched in less than 2 min!

next comes the 80gig DMS! hehe  ;D

Thanks for the success reports guys...but look out for v2.11 coming soon.  Fixes a few issues with DMS creation (losing disk space) and will also include the AAC plugin now we have a full workaround for it! :)

I'm not able to unzip the files. I'm using WinRar and it tells me "unexpected end of archive" The archive is either in an unknown format or damaged. I used WinRar just fine the other day. Can someone look at the file, see if its still working properly? Thanks

I just tried it with WinZIP and it extracted fine.  Try right-clicking and 'Save Target As' and choose a new filename, perhaps you've got a corrupted partial download and your browser is having a bad day with it.

Newb in the house!!!!

Okay, i've been looking around this site and I'm very excited....I'm a little cloudy on what exactly I have to do, but I'm going to start downloading the various files. As a newb to PhatHack, I have a few questions:

1. Is there a plain jane, step-by-step, do this and then do this and the click this type instructional somewhere on here?
2. Is there a list of equipment (hardware and software) to have before begining? For example, can I use my 20G DMS stock, do I need to do some physical modifications, ect...

If it exist, then please point me in the right direction. If it doesn't exist and can someone create something similar for the less experienced.....like myself.

1. Read the tools documentation, it should be up-to-date enough to follow
2. Use the stock hardware to hack the box, then you can just buy a new disk to replace the existing one in the DMS cartridge.

Sorry to post in an old topic but I can't seem to get the DMS firmware updated on my DMS, I had to create a new drive and all I had as back up was an old 5.01 version I would like the 7.02 version if anyone has it. VW headunit.

What's the problem updating the firmware, a bug?

the drop down menu for select DMS firmware is blank

By default the program starts up in Hack Wizard Mode, and the firmware drop-down menu is disabled.  You have to select DMS Tools Mode to enable the firmware menu.

Did that, the firmware dropdown is still blank

Do you have .NET 2.0 Framework installed?  Only thing I can think is causing the problem is that the HTTP requests aren't getting through, and I think MS changed the HTTP side of things from 1.1 to 2.0.

Also might be worth seeing if there's any additional information in the log files.  My docs\PhatHack Media Manager\Logs

figured it out, had to extract from zip before install, do not install from within zip file, now works great, 7.02 back on my vw phatbox.
all who are involved with PhatHack are to be commended for the excellent work they have done.
