Title: PMM update from 1.83?
Post by: McFiesto on October 16, 2007, 01:04:13 AM
Greetings, I'm new to this site and PhatNoise.

I just bought a 2005 VW Passat with the 20GB PhatNoise already installed. I have original software for the PhatNoise Music Media (PMM) version 1.83 without the registration info (s/n, etc). I cannot download updates from the PhatNoise web site.

I've contacted PhatNoise customer service with no result other than a generic reply and a customer reference number.

I cannot download the PMM v2.30 update and I'm not entirely sure that is the correct update I need. I found a source from the UK that has the v2.30 but when I go to install it tells me that the size of the file is less than what was expected and promptly aborts the update.

I am hoping that if I can get this update that I can somehow get the PMM to recognize my ITunes library. (it doesn't as yet)

Is this the correct update for my VW PhatNoise, if so where can I get a update that works?

I've searched the web and read a great deal about PhatNoise, but it is becomming more of an Enigma than a the great system even though it can be a truely great system.

You should be able to download the update from their website... it doesn't require a serial number etc, just requires you to fill out a form.  What type of problem are you having downloading?

I saw the broken download link you reported and checked it out, and it downloaded fine.  I even ran through the complete install without issue.
You could re-try the download and save the file as a different name than the default.

When it's downloaded, the file should show as 18,610 KB through Windows explorer.

Oh, could you send me a copy of PMM 1.83 please?

It might be a useful archive to have. :)

OK, so I've managed to install PMM v2.30 for my VW. Is there an advantage to installing PMM 3.92?

VorTechS, where do I send the PMM 1.83 to?

3.92 has a re-engineered interface, in theory writes a few less files (although it doesn't impact on how long it takes to synch everything to the DMS) and also includes a new dictionary options allowing you to smooth out any VIOT announcements.

Those are the immediate changes to be noticed.  No doubt there are a lot of bug fixes in there too.

You can upload your file here: ftp://leetradio.kicks-ass.org/phatnoise/

Thanks!

I'm in a similar boat.  I just put a new hard drive in my computer and went to install Phatnoise music manager.  It turns out my install CD has gone bad so I can't install.  I need it because I have a Phatbox in my car that is useless without it.  Does anyone know how I can get this software?  The phatnoise website is unavailable and has been for the last few days every time I've checked.  Thanks,

Lanier

PS I do have an image of my old hard drive.  Can I get it off that somehow?  What happens if I just copy the Program Files/Phatnoise directory?

I don't have 3.92, but I do have 3.42.  I also have the 1.83 version also.

VorTechS, the ftp site isn't working for me.  So I'll put them onto Rapid Share.  I have to dig them up, but they'll be up there soon and I'll post a link.

Does anyone have 3.92 available?  I searched around and can't seem to find it in the forum or externally.

Edit:  Woops, I should have refreshed the page before posting this.  Nevermind about 3.92.  I'll still upload the versions I have so you can put it on the new site!  Nice!

I've just checked from an external connection using DOS ftp, and there's no problems logging in.
Is the problem you can't upload anything, or not login?

The root directory does not permit browsing, but you should be able to change into the upload directory and transfer the files.  This is not an error, this is deliberate.
