Hey Guys.
All was smooth and dandy on my new phatbox install until yesterday. My HU keeps losing connection to my PB now, and I have to reseat the cable to the Phatbox to regain the connection. I have read around this forum that there is an older firmware that Phatnoise had recommended people try using. From what I have read.. it works for some.. and not for others.
All the links I have come across for this firmware are 404.
Anyone got it kickin around?
Also, this problem might be because I live in Canada, where temperatures are now getting to around -4 celsius. I dont plan on running my phatbox this winter, as it gets to -30 celsius here, and I CANT see that being good for the phatbox or DMS cartridges at all :).
Cheers.

no dice..
the file im looking for is f701_2004-08-02_noPD.zip
That seems strange. What headunit do you have?
It is an odd filename, but reading between the lines f701 = Firmware 7.01. Perhaps it was just someone @ Phatnoise distributing the files using a more legible filename?
I have the VW Premium VI Double DIN HU.
It appears to not be a whole firmware upgrade, from what I understand. In the "sample" e-mails from Phatnoise reps, it appears you are to unzip it to the PHTSYS partition, and when you insert the DMS, it DOES NOT do an upgrade.
Maybe I am way out too lunch on this one...
Here is what one of the emails looked like:

Please find a link to the alternate firmware below:

Please unzip these files to your PHYSYS directory. You do not need to
reprogram
your PhatBox. If you need assistance, please reply to this email.
Please note, these files will not pass the PhatNoise DMS Doctor
"Checking
for System Files" test until it becomes an official beta release. Please
provide feedback at your convenience.
I'm not sure what they mean by "reprogram".
Why not try http://downloads.phathack.com/firmware/headunit_0x3950_7_00.zip or one of the other older VW-Native releases?
As far as I know, any old firmware would be included there... the one I linked is dated 5/14/2004
For what it's worth, I've been using my PhatBox in my VW all winter here in Saskatoon. It's consistently been -30 to -40 for over a month now. It has yet to give me any troubles.
