Depends on the make of your head unit if its VW/Audi then they are on 7.02

The easiest way to update the firmware is by using the advanced menu in Phatnoise  music or media manager.

Phatnoise Music manager.
1 Insert DMS
2 Hardware options
3 Firmware setup (tab at the top)
4 Advanced (button)
5 Select product
6 make of headunit (VW/Audi)etc.

Then follow the instructions this will update the firmware to the latest version.

If you are using media manager follow these instructions.

1 Insert DMS
2 tools
3 options
4 Firmware/plugins (left task plane)
5 update dms firmware
6 Next
7 Advanced
8 Select product
9 make of headunit (VW/Audi)etc.

Or alternatively you can download the firmware from here

Download the Windows Hack Tools v2.10, I have built an update firmware option into it which should help you get the firmware up-to-date easily.

What a piece of software the download is, if you haven't got it...get it !.
Luckily and hopefully the firmware update I did seems to have solved my problems, thanks to the information on here.
If you have a funding pot I will gladly contribute.

Many Thanks Guys !.

No new firmware since 2005 - the Volvo release.

Why do you ask...?

Just in case a new one had been released so I could update my Phatnoise really.
Do you know if I can get other voices that announce things?, I'm getting a tadge bored with good old 'Alex' sounding like a robot !
Cheers :D

Regarding the firmware - I think we should just be thankful that it works and works well.  Phatnoise abandoned the product, but at least it is a pretty reliable and stable piece of software.

For voices you need to search around on the forum a bit and then on the web.  I have no idea what Alex sounds like.  I have Jennifer - she came with the software that I have (PMM 3.92) and is OK to my ears, if rather too American.

There are plenty of third party voice tools out there using the standard Windows SAPI5 interface.  The trick is to use voices which generate files with a 22kHz sample rate. Many only do 16kHz, which sounds fine from the PC, but you then have to convert for the Phatbox to play them and that often makes the quality suffer (in my experience, anyway).
