Looking to purchase a BMW version Phatnoise head unit only. If I can't find one I will use my Audi/VW version. I like the smaller footprint.
Thanks
You can always take the giant case off the VW one and put it in something more sensible... it really has no use besides making it really big
Too much of a hassle. I might just get a Kenwood version and swap cases.

No need to swap the cases - just flash the Kenwood Keg with the BMW firmware.
Some people have taken the VV/Audi case and carefully cut the needless "O" forms off the sides.
Even the BMW case doesn't fit in all BMWs - I have an E46 Touring (wagon) and had to mount the Phatbox in the trunk area:

I would flash a Kenwood Keg, but I would lose the Voice Prompts. I would need the additional voice prompt software. I am mounting mine in a X5 and it can be mounted and hidden in the rear.
Thanks

Err. No you wouldn't. A Keg that is re-flashed with BMW firmware works exactly like a BMW Phatbox. Same controls, same voice prompts.
It's only the Keg firmware that doesn't natively support voice announcements (hence the need for a VIOT add-on).
Good luck!
