Title: Dock voltage/amperage?
Post by: DrZ on July 17, 2008, 05:41:57 AM
Can anyone tell me the voltage and amperage of the wall wart power supply for the Phatdock?  Also, is the tip positive/sleeve negative as with most wall warts?

Mine is lost and the specs are not printed anywhere I can find.  I'm guessing it's pretty standard and I can use any wall wart with the right voltage and same (or more) amperage plus correct plug.

Thanks

Mine works with 12V, center +, barrel -, at 300 mA (although not the original adapter).

Cheers,
Jeff

I use a 12 volt 500mA adaptor.  You can go down to 9 volts or possibly lower, but current rating should probably be higher in that case (800mA or more should be OK).   The switching regulator in the cradle has a wide input range 9 - 15 volts or so, but it's better to stay near the lower end of the range.  As for the plug - yes - centre is positive.  Size - outside diameter 5.5mm, inside diameter 2.1mm.  You may get away with 5.0mm o/d or 2.5mm i/d variants, but contact will probably be less reliable.

From the U.S. adapter I have here:

Input: 120VAC 60hz 17W
Output: 12V DC 800mA
