Post by: todd1010 on July 27, 2005, 02:35:45 AM
when doing this step
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Now we are ready to move onto phase 2.  This phase will copy over the files needed to execute the hack / flash patch on the phatbox.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Code: 0

In the Top area where it says:
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Write flash code to DMS:Software load failed!

I rebooted to the Phathack CD, and did everything again it worked.

I put it in the Phatbox in the car and it actually played the track you spoke of and said "your DMS is now unlocked" then it said "Corrupt Track", then on to my Playlist 2.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear.  I don't know why it said that the first time.. that is quite odd. .. at least its working now!

Once I put in the new HD in the DMS case. Put it in the cradle and type "YES". I got this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Search for DMS:OK
Backup genuine DMS data:OK
Write Flash code to DMS:Working...
Copy old PHTSYS to the new DMS:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Cleaning drive...
/dev/sdb: No such device or address

sfdisk:cannot open /dev/sdb for reading
################################
Your DMS is defective. Contact customer support.
Error code LBD0001
################################

So right now I'm at that screen. Thinking about what I should do.

You didnt wait long enough after putting in the new drive... probably need to get the image updated

Where should I start at? All the way back to the beginning and repeat the process, all over?

exactly right sbingner... I'll hvae to update my docs.. the text that you have to wait for on the second screenshot, the USB messages.. you have to wait for those when you plug the drive back in or it wont detect it.

Linux is slow to detect the new device compared to windows.

Just run the process again, only you can skip the part where you put the old DMS into your phatbox.

so when it comes up for you to type YES, pull out the old DMS drive, swap it for the new one.. wait for the messages to appear and THEN type YES and hit enter.

After I did that and put my "new" DMS hard drive back in. I'm not getting a command prompt to type "YES", just a blinking cursor.

type "YES" and hit enter, odds are the messages about the insertion of your DMS were printed after the prompt was

I have my OS on a SATA hard drive and as a second hard drive I have one connected via IDE.

Here are all of my USB connections:

HP Printer
USB Bluetooth adaptor

I would disconnect your USB devices and try it ...

the SATA drive MIGHT be causing it to shift ... but I thought we didnt have sata support enabled.

I disconnected ALL USB connections, except the Phatnoise cradle. I ran the Boot CD again and still got the same message.

Could there be possibly something wrong with my new hard drive? Is there a way I can do a check within windows to see if its good?

I booted up to Windows and went into disk management to see what was going on. I put in the "new" DMS in the cradle. It seems to have made a PHTSYS partition of 64mb. But it didn't make a PHTDTA partition, I guess it didn't make it that far in the Phathack Boot CD. But it seem to have split my new hard drive up into 3 partitions.

PHTSYS ( F: )  64mb
18.57gb  free space
37.25 Unallocated

I started with a complete unpartitoned "Unallocated" drive.

I am going to test another change to this CD  if it works I'll post it for you to try...

One thing that it could be is that you have a jumper on that drive set to slave or cable select that is making the drive name appear as something else.  Did you check to make sure there are no jumpers on the drive before you put it in the DMS cart?

There are NO jumpers at all on the new drive! But I WILL look again just for this purpose.

Well it went all the way like it supposed to!!! Yay!!

Now so do I boot up to windows and put the "new" DMS in the cradle and load the radio firmware, or do I just run PMM load some tunes and check it out?
