Title: Making a new cradle for the DMS for travel?
Post by: todd1010 on September 23, 2005, 03:25:47 PM
First off, we all know that the cradle is huge and requires power. I was wondering what I would need to do to make a smaller version? Not really an exact version, but something that would work just like the cradle so I can pack it up in my notebook case.

Any ideas are welcomed!

well really you could just take the cradle apart and cary it along with the power adaptor with you in a static bag... the PCB is pretty small inside.

Thats and idea, but I kinda want something that I don't have to worry when handling.

Is there some kind of adaptor to USB, that I can buy?

You'd have to create an adapter to adapt the DMS connector to an IDE connector. Then you could just plug that into a USB to IDE device.

Or, if you are willing to pop the drive out of the DMS case when you want to update it, you could try something like this:

USB2.0 TO IDE CABLE FOR 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" DRIVE

Would this work with the phatnoise software though?

Yes, it would work because I took my old 10gb dms hd and put it into a USB 2.0 2.5 external hdd case. Whenever I hook it up to my laptop it will bring up pmm and I can access the drive the same as I could access a dms

the phatnoise software works even if the drive is hooked up to your internal IDE controler, its all about the name of the drives, not much else.
