Title: VW Unit dies every couple days...
Post by: mcphill on June 14, 2006, 03:58:09 PM
I have a PhatNoise in a 2001 Passat.  It has been working fine for about 8 months.  Recently, though, it dies every few days.  When it "dies", the head unit reports "NO CD", and both the red and green lights are illuminated on the PhatNoise unit (steady on, no flickering).  I have tried ejecting the cartridge, cycling head unit power, etc. to get it to reboot, but that does not work.  If I disconnect the cable where it attaches to the car wiring loom, though, it restarts 80% of the time.  It will work for a day or two again, before I need to repeat.

I just read a post about pins in the cables not being fully seated, so I will check that out when I get home this weekend.

Any other suggestions?

hows the health of the DMS?

Have you tried running some drive utilities on it to test that its not that?

Using something like check disk etc
