Title: FAQ: What files formats does the PhatBox / Kenwood Keg support?
Post by: VorTechS on November 09, 2011, 08:17:14 am
One of the more common problems people find, is that they are sometimes not able to get their PhatBox to play certain files and as has been identified in various posts/articles around the web this is because the PhatBox isn't a generalized media player.  Therefore it is subject to limitations, and one of those is the Frequency/Bit Rates/ File Formats that it supports.

Here is a list, both from PhatNoise itself, and other contributors, of the Formats/Frequency/Bit Rates that the box supports:

FORMATBIT RATE (KBPS)FREQUENCIES (KHZ)
FLACAny11, 22, 44.1
M4A128-296kbps44.1
MP332-32011, 22, 44.1
WMA64-12844.1

Please note, the above list comes from PhatNoise and may be out-dated and is best on an OEM distribution.  Hacked boxes may offer better support.
We hope to improve on this list as time goes on!

Here is a list, both from PhatNoise itself, and other contributors, of the Formats/Frequency/Bit Rates that the box supports:

The Phatbox also supports WAV, as well as 8KHz sample frequency (while not a subrate of 44.1, it has special support for 8 so that the voice prompts work).

I believe PhatNoise also added OGG support somewhere along the line.
