Phatnoise VA-012 PBOX WITH VW BEETLE MONSOON RADIO
« on: July 17, 2008, 03:52:29 pm »
I have had this phatnoise box in my 1999 a6 Audi. connected with the CD changer cable that came with the  car. worked perfect in the Audi which had a Panasonic CD changer. The question I have now is I have  VW 2003 beetle. With the monsoon radio. this car also has a CD changer but it is a kenwood. The plugs on both CD changers look the same and both plugs are round and have the same amount of pins. Both radios are CD changer capable. The phatnoise cable that came with phatbox. The CD end of cable plugs into both the Panasonic and the kenwood without any problem. Before I turn it on does anybody know if it will work or will it damage my radio.
thanks Doug

PS Also had it in a 1996VW Passat and worked fine.

If you try it, check to be sure the power pins are the same using a voltage meter... the pinouts for kenwood are available at http://www.phathack.com/?page=pinouts

As long as the power pins are the same, connecting it should not damage the phatbox.  If you verify ALL the pins on the cable using a continuity tester you'll be really safe.

vwv and nb both have threads saying it's a good to go, doesn't seem that your monsoon HU is any different than another, so I'd say just plug it in and go.

Your talk about your panasonic and Kenwood CD Changers confused me -- yea just plug it in and it should be fine.
