Hack Incomplete... stuck in loop
« on: July 26, 2008, 06:18:29 pm »
I think I may have been to impatient, and interrupted the process prematurely.
Now the vw box in my Volvo (was working fine) isn’t recognized. When I insert the DMS I get both lights on for a few seconds and then 3 long blinks, followed by about 10 minutes of fast blinking. The unit then stops (resets) and does the whole thing again. I have removed power from the phatbox and disconnected the HU. still seems to be in a loop.
After reading some of the other threads I tried reformat phtsys, and then installing unhacked firmware for Volvo. I have the same result.
The log file that I captured earlier is over 11 MB, should I post it, or part of it?
I'm a bit worried.

I had something similar on one box that i hacked - for some reason it was never deleting the forcesettings/forceupdate files from rout of PHTSYS, so constantly tried to reload firmware.
The solution? Watch it complete one cycle i.e. the blinking stops and you see all the lights shut off then pull the DMS out. On your PC manually delete those files if they exist. Then you should be OK (assuming it's the same problem of course!)
Good luck!

Thanks Firefox

What I ended up doing was corrupting the ramdisk.sig file, and putting it back in the box. It seemed to load the firmware and then shut down.  I turned on the HU and it was back.
So then I used 2.12 DMS tools to try the hack again. I don’t think it took, because I heard the new welcome playlist way to fast, and I don’t have the hack log. I powered off the PB and disconnected the HU from it, but it still played the intro right away.

I’ll keep working on it.

Oh dear..
This sounds all too familiar.
I bought my Phatbox about 10 months ago from a VW dealer and it was sealed and so definately new and legit !!
I ran the 2.12dms hack tool and it reconed my DMS was not original !! I too now have a phatbox that doesnt work..
I want to upgrade the standard 40GB DMS to something bigger all because I started to re-record / store my entire music collect on "FLAC" as opposed to the 320kbps MP3 I had been using..
I have to say at this moment in time I wish I had left it all alone as it was working fine !
So it looks like I shall be watching this forum closely as I search the internet to buy a 80 or 120GB DMS thats allready done!

Success...

I loaded the hack tool onto my DMS and tried again. This time the unit took a few seconds to load, and then played the Phathack jingle at position “CD01 01” then again at “CD01 02” position “CD01 03” played your Phatbox has been hacked. I’m loading a newly built DMS now.

Thanks for the Forum.
