What are the RCA ports for on a Kenwood KHD-C710?
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:38:30 pm »
Hello Everyone,

After many happy years with my Kenwood KHD-C710 I think its now starting to fail.
However I have often wondered what are the RCA ports for on a Kenwood KHD-C710?
If this has already been answered in the pass than apologies :)

Looks like I answered my own question.
RCA outputs: Left and right preamp outputs that can be used to send the signal to a recording device

Wondering if my keg cable is bad.
Could I attach the keg's RCA connection to this device(Kenwood CA-C1AUX), and than to the Kenwood head unit?

You don't really say what the problem is that makes you think things are on their way out?

I suspect that cable will only act as an audio carrier - so I'd be surprise if you get any changer control functions out of it, making the box pretty pointless.  I'm only making an assumption there though.

Hello dear VorTechS!

I've been away for awhile and all the while my setup has been working fine.

Kenwood KVT-617DVD
Kenwood KHD-C710

I have been using a 120GB DMS that has been about 70% empty. About a year ago I was starting to get a few concerns with the stereo not seeing the Keg on startup.
1. So I would turn the stereo off/on and all would be good. Now it’s a no go:(
2. I've done the DMS repair.
3. Swiped out the 120GB for the OEM 10GB and still the stereo doesn't see the Keg.
4. Disconnected the Keg and waited.
5. Disconnected the cable from Head unit.
6. Reformatted using DMS Toos v2.15

At this point I thought the Kenwood CA-C1AUX wouldn't hurt and for a good price of only $5.00.
I'm at a lost and have been reading this trusted forum for the last few days.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, first question - has your box been hacked?

Second question - what is the box doing when you select the Keg in the stereo (physically go and have a look at the red and green lights on the front).

Is the green light blinking rapidly, for some time?
Or is there a sequence where green light flashes and then the red light comes on, in a repeating pattern?

Hello again dear VorTechS!

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my recent concerns.

Yes I hacked the box back in 2007.
What I have just observed is a solid red light, while the green light blinks every 5 seconds.

Well, that sounds to me like it's working normally.  It might be worth sticking the verbose logging in and taking a look at the log files to be sure of that.  (The DMS tools has the facility to install the logging)

Thank you dear VorTechS,

I'll get started on the logs and report the findings a.s.a.p.
Will the logs be located on PHTSYS  or PHTDTA?

I've run into another challenge with the log.
I cannot access the Keg from the stereo. Before I had an option to connect to the HHD-EXT. This option doesn't appear. I 've reset the HU, disconnected the cable, and still the Keg isn't appearing.

**NOTE**
Since 2007 my setup hasn't changed. The Keg option via the Kenwood HU has always been HHD-EXT. Right when I started having issues (recently) with the setup I did notice a single time when the option to connect was via CD-CH. Because it had always been HHD-EXT it stuck out in my mind and made me go hmmmmm...

The logs will be located on PHTSYS, but I always forget the name of it!  Might be logfile.txt, but don't quote me on that.

It's quite common for the Keg to do that, particularly if things on PHTSYS change but more frustratingly there's no rhyme or reason as to how it suddenly comes back to life.  Again it might be worth observing the light sequence on the box to see if that gives us any clues to what is going on!

Before proceeding I will wait till the new cable (KHD-5L1) arrives.

Hello again,

The new cable arrived.
I connected it to the Keg and the green light blinks steady, along with the solid red light.
I let it run it's course, 14hrs later still the same non-stop blinking as mentioned above.

We need to have a look at the log files and see what's going on, just to make sure the box things it is operating normaly (which I believe it is from the description of light sequence you gave me)

Have you tried factory resetting the stereo?

I vaguely recall that being a solution to connectivity problems in the past too....

When the DMS is placed back in DMS Tools it says:
Boot Check
bootload.log file indicates that the box has successfully booted without issue.

RC Logs
Dont be silly. You need to give me a log to analyse the results.
(I havent  written any code for it yet!)

I keep enabling Install  Verbose Logging  but  it keeps telling me the  same thing  probably cause the  HU isn't seeing the DMS

Ignore the bit about the process trying to analyze the logs.  As it says, I haven't written anything to parse the logs and extract anything useful from them.  However, the log file will have been created, and will be located on PHTSYS.

Thanks for the reply.
After a few days I did some research/testing with a much older compatible Kenwood HU.
Right away it fired right up without any issues. The older Kenwood HU immediately say the Keg when connected, as well as the CD Changer.

Looks like the problem is a bad AUX port on the Kenwood HideAway Unit.

Thanks for the help.
