Audi to Kenwood Head unit
« on: December 30, 2005, 09:06:05 pm »
After a few months of running an Audi concert head unit with a hacked Audi Phatbox decided to change so just to let anyone know a Kenwood-PSW 9531   20005 model works with a hacked Audi box using the appropriate cable and firmware.

Yes you are correct.  see http://forum.phathack.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1135720518 for the same sort of information.

But do you still have SSA song navigation or did you have to spring for VIOT?

If you switch to Kenwood firmware, you will have to buy VIOT. SSA is not included.

If you enable SSA without VIOT from the wiki then you get to browse the playlists by voice but  searching by artist, genre, etc. you would need to buy VIOT.

All my music was on CD so when I transferred this to the DMS  I gave every artist their own playlist & use a Kenwood steering wheel remote to navigate to the artist playlist by voice & then read the text on the headunit for the track .

I found myself using this set up with the Audi headunit even though I had full  searching by artist, genre, etc. so in my case I  don’t think the additional features of  VIOT  would be worth the extra cost. However if every artist did not have their own playlist I would buy it as long as I could get it to work.

Did you do the wiki SSA trick?
Actually, I think my kenwood has been announcing playlists without any tricks (although I have all the speech code on the PC from my Audi install).....

It is possible.

I have the speech installed on my PC from my Audi install and added the file from the wiki at the same time I updated the firmware to Kenwood.

The first time I used the Kenwood the playlist announce was working which one of the above caused it to work is anyone’s guess but as long as it worked I am happy.

I have since read the wiki properly as well as a couple of posts by judb & sbingner (thank you judb & sbingner ) and have got SSA working correctly I can now search by artist & genre etc. using the scan button. ;D

Learn to walk before you run springs to mind.

What is the difference between SSA & VIOT apart from $75 ?  :-?
