Hi guys,

I've got a 20gb kenwood keg at the moment hooked up to a Z838W headunit. I'm seriously looking at getting a new Mk5 Golf GTI and want to know if I can run my kenwood keg with the VW headunit (will be a RCD500).

I've had a search and am I correct in thinking if I flash the unit to the VW firmware and buy the cable that VW sell I'll be ok, or, will I have to chop up a custom cable?

If you can get a cable from VW you'll be fine

This may be mis information but, I was told that the reason that VW is blowing the phat boxes out is that they have changed headunit manufacturers and the boxes are not compatible with the mk 5 cars - just puttin' it out there.
It was actually a small determinant in deciding not to buy the 2007 GTI and to stick with a new the Mk 4 .

Hi -   I recall seeing posts on this list a long while ago re. the same thing - ie, VW changing HU manufacturer.   Paid no attention at the time since I didn't have a VW... am actually using a VW phatbox, but it's flashed with Kenwood firmware, in my Celica.   However - I have just bought a 2001 VW Passat 2.5 V6 Turbo Diesel....   Does anyone here know if I will have issues with the HU in that vehicle, and my 'Box...?   I was thinking of simply buying or making a VW cable and re-flashing the 'Box, but the previous post has now made me think... compatibility... ?   Thanks in advance - Phool.
