newbie try to use the modified DMS with Media Manager
« on: January 13, 2008, 07:21:55 am »
Hello I just found this site and the way to modifiy the DMS to allow any size hard drive to be put in. I downloaded the software and instructions and followed them closely and I have successfully modded my orginal 10 gig DMS to hold a 60 gig laptop hard drive as well as modify the music keg (c710) to play the new drives. The problem I am having is when I create a new drive with the firmware. It formats the drive and everything seems ok until I use the new DMS on the Media Manager. When I go to devices and click on the DMS and it shows the DMS there but its asking me for the model of my head unit so it starts the wizard to find out which one I use but when I click on the internet update the box is blank. Is this the way its supposed to be or did I miss a step?

thanks
Paul

Someone who knows more about this will be along in a bit, but in the meantime I'll try to help.

The blank Internet update is because Phatnoise's servers have been down more often than they're up, so PMM can't find the list of choices.

You should be able to copy the file currentsetup.xml (I think that's it - if not, something very close to that) from the old DMS to the new one. Just in case I'm wrong, save the version from the new DMS so you can put it back. That should convince PMM that the DMS is set up correctly for your PhatBox / car combo.

Terry's answer is correct... it's just missing the xml, nothing actually wrong with your config... PMM is just confused.  Copying from your old DMS should work perfectly

thanks guys for the quick replies. I am not sure how I go about doing something like you describe if you could could you please explain the steps to me to get it working. Do I have to pull that current setup off the original DMS harddrive?

thanks again
Paul

Terry was pretty clear, but yes, you have to copy the currentsetup.xml file from the phtsys partition of your original DMS.  Just copy-paste to the desktop, then copy-paste again to the phtsys partition on the new DMS when it's loaded.

(That, by the way, could be a useful function to add to the DMS tools.)

Better still, I need to get the am.xml file in the right shape so that the current process works as intended.
It's on my to do list - it's just I have a very big to do list ATM.

I'll see if I can force myself to do something this week on it.
