New PhatBox old Software
« on: May 28, 2008, 09:45:40 am »
Hi there.

I have a quastion about updating the DMS.
I bought the Phat box some weeks ago. Than a friend of mine installt it my car.
Now we have the problem that the radio(concert 2) did not recognize the PhatBox.
We took another radio but there was no change.
We insert my DMS in an other car with PhatBox System. There my DMS worked.
Now we have the idea that the problem is the software version on the DMS.
Actual the version of the firmware is 5.01. Ist an old one, but I can't update it, because there is no selection possible in the hardware options of the DMS.

Can I do the update of the DMS on an other way and where do I get the right updatesoftware?

Thanks form your help

regards

Marc

Make a backup of all files on your PHTSYS partition.  You can just copy/paste them to a new folder on your local drive, .ZIP/.RAR them etc.  Alternatively, you could use the DMS Backup in DMS Tools.  This will also backup the special 1 meg partition.

Go here and Download the firmware for your car model.  Looks like yours is first in the list: http://downloads.phathack.com/firmware/

Download ALL 4 ZIPs file and extract them onto the PHTSYS partition.  Overwrite all existing files.  Then put the DMS in your Phatbox and turn on your radio.  You should see the DMS boot and then green light start to flash continuously.  It will do this for a couple minutes.  This is the firmware updating process.  Once it's done the phatbox should come online and be usable.

You can actually use the DMS tools full stop (period) to do the firmware update.

Just be sure to use the 'Firmware Update' option, and if necessary the 'Non-hacked Firmware' options.  (Non hacked firmware = for non-hacked phatbox).

Hi HDClown.

I did it the way you told me. The green light flashed some time(about 5-10 minutes), then it turned off.
I restarted everything and its the same like before the software upgrade:
- Turn on Ignition
- red light turns on
- also green light turns on for some time
- green light turn off
- red light stays always on!!
- the green light turns on shotly every 10 seconds
- On headunit I can´t choose the changer/PhatBox

Tomorrow I'll try on of the older softwareversions, perhaps it will work.

You are describing normal function, except for the HU not seeing it...

Thank you for the information.

Then it could only be the cable which is perhaps wrong wired?

So I have to open up the car to get to the cable....  :'(

The Phatbox is getting power through the cable, so it should be working.  Sometimes, though, you just have to disconnect and reconnect the cable at the Phatbox to get the head unit to recognize it.

sounds more like wrong firmware to me... unless I misunderstood your description.  Did you try rc pairs to be sure it booted up?  I'm pretty sure it's booting up ok but you never know...

It took a long time get the "thing" playing my music  :P
But at the end the human being(me)has won the challenge  ;D ;D ;D ;D

It was a simple broken wire and additional this wire was mounted on the wrong pin.

Now the MUSIC goes on and on and on and on and ..........
