You need a backup of the first 1MB of the drive to restore.  I believe I have one lying around somewhere in the office, so won't be able to dig it out until tomorrow morning.

Assuming I have it, you need to restore it using DD, an application distributed with the DMS tools... and I'll help you get up and running with that.
Once you are back up and running, then first stop is running the hack so you don't run into this problem again!

Unless he got that specific drive from you, your signatures won't match his drive's serial number and thus it won't help. Or am I missing something?

Uhm, good point.  I was thinking that I did a restore on my original DMS of that 1MB after I inadvertently trashed it - and everything worked.
But that was about getting the partitions back, and of course my box is hacked.

I'm afraid Terry is right.... I'm pretty sure that this won't work.
You'll need to either, buy another original DMS (from Ebay) or find someone that can hack your box for you (I can do Kegs if you're willing to ship, and pay returning shipping to/from the UK...).

It's not clear from the OP if the partitions on the DMS were deleted or if just the data was wiped.

If it's just the data, you should be able to run a partial or full repair with the tools, or a manual firmware install.  Any partitions showing when connected to a computer, or is everything really gone?

everything has gone due to my lack of knowledge and not looking at these forums before i reformatted the drive thinking it would be just a simple process. the drive can be formatted and can be seen by pmm ie load songs on to it just wont play in the keg

You'll be lucky to find many UK folks here... let alone in Yorkshire.... but you never know.
Like I said, if you are willing to send the box to me (Gloucester/Bristol) I have no problems running the hack for you to get your box up and running again...

would i be correct in saying that any working DMS from any player would work in my kenwood keg?

asuming so i could purchase a new phatnoise player including dms from say ebay, hack my player with the new dms then sell it on again?

Yup, you would be right... you just need the correct cable for your headunit, and to load the new DMS with the correct firmware for your Keg.

With the hacked boxes, you can 'Create New DMS' using the hack tools and install hacked firmware onto it and it'll be usable again
