Restoring DMS with original firmware
« on: May 23, 2024, 09:10:35 pm »
Hi all,

Recently got a Phatbox. My DSM was playing up and after trying different computers (and, VM's), I finally got my DSM to show. However, something wasn't right, so I thought I'd start a fresh. (No backups)

I stupidly formatted the drive and now of course I have an empty drive. I've downloaded Phathack DMS Tools to try and create a new DMS. But, I cannot choose any firmwares? I look in PMM and tried also loading the firmware but, again, nothing is online now.

I found dsmutils and ran the 'newdsm.bat' which recreated the partitions. However, since reading on here, it's not meant to be used? So now I'm stuck with my original DMS, that cannot be read. Really annoyed with myself as I was playing music yesterday and today...

Is anyone able to help to get my DMS back up and running?

Well, a lot of learned these past few weeks.

I was able to pick up a spare DMS from a Kenwood Keg by pure chance. Thankfully, it wasn’t messed with. Changed the firmware to VW, and it was read by the Phatbox. Used the DMS tools, ran the hack which was successful and now I’m back to using my original drive.
