Newbie, please be nice to me. Couple of problems
« on: September 11, 2006, 08:10:19 pm »
Hi,
I am new to this so please be gentle.

I can get albums on to the DMS and (when I disconnect from the internet) can get the bird and blokes voice telling me the album etc......sometimes lol.

The problem I have is that it wont register the product and I cant connect to the internet via the PMM software.

Is there a quick fix to this?

I also get inteference/engine whine coming over the speakers in my VW Golf, it didnt do it before the Phatbox was installed, is it a common problem?

Many thanks in advance,

JB68

Your post is not clear.

First, are you using Phatnoise Music Manager (2.30), or Phatnoise Media Manager (3.x)?

You wrote that you can get music to the DMS when you disconnect from the internet, but connecting to the internet should have nothing to do with transferring music to the DMS.

I am also not aware that you can listen to the voice prompts via the PMM software.

What do you mean it "won't register the product"?  What can you not register, the PMM software or a plug-in (such as VOIT)?

You will get advice on this forum, but it will be helpful if you can be precise.

As for the engine noise, this is covered in many other posts.  Use the search function on the forum (be sure to set it to search all posts) to search "engine whine" or "engine noise."

Hmmm, dont know if that can be labelled as a gentle reply but hey thanks anyway.

I am using P Music M 1.87    This is the software that came in the box. I can not update nor register this software from the PMM options screen.

I can get music to the DMS whether connected to the internet or not, it is the voice over that will not write when I am connected to the internet and have a firewall up etc.
(I sussed that one myself)

When connected to the internet, with the PMM software running, I should be able to use the "web" page within PMM as a browser. This does not work at all.

The engine noise/whine search brings up posts that seem to be aimed at fully qualified electronics technicians, as I stated previously I am a newbie and would have prefered some advice in laymans terms.

Many thanks for your reply markbowen,
JB68

I was more gentle than some would be, believe me!

Anyway, the point is to get to the bottom of your problem, and we have already discovered something important -- you are using outdated software.  It is so old that it is probably pointing itself to an outdated web address, which is why you cannot connect to update it.

So, I strongly suggest that you download the latest version directly from the Phatnoise website:  http://www.phatnoise.com/downloads/index.php

I personally recommend the latest version (2.30) of Music Manager.  It is more stable, and easier to use.  You may want to uninstall the version you are currently using before installing the new one.  I think the new software will sort most of your problems out.

As for the engine whine, unfortunately I cannot be more helpful, because I have not had this problem.  Suggest you try a separate posting on that issue under the forum section "Phatnoise Hardware Support."

Hi there, and I too am a newbie. My problem is far less complicated though, in that I dont even have the software to download to my pc. You see, while waiting on the appropriate cord for my phatbox, I managed to lose my cd. Then when I went to the phatnoise website, they were having problems with their downloads too... I even phoned them to find the same result. So if anyone out there can give me any alternatives on how to get the software, by all means message me, I would appreciate the help!
Thanks.

Hi,

The Phatnoise server appears not to be working at the moment.  This happens sometimes.  I have sent you a personal message to see if I can help short term.  Long term, you will need to find your CD to get full access to the encoding side.
