Problem with new drive!
« on: December 21, 2006, 01:40:55 am »
Hey Guys,

OK I bought my Kenwood Music Keg KHD-C710 & Kenwood KDC-W7531 nearly a year ago and have not yet got it working with my 60gig drive. It works fine with the original 10gig. I patched the box using the guide over 6 months back. Then I copied the 1mb to the new drive, and used the Phatnoise DAP Recovery CD as instructed.

When I next booted Windows PPM saw my new DMS and went about doing its thing. I then put some music onto the DMS and went to test. However when I tried in the keg its trying to access playlist 1 track 7 which is the last track I was playing before removing the original 10gig DMS from the car. After a short while it gave up trying to open playlist 1 track 7 the phatbox turned off and my Kenwood head unit comes up with Eject on the display.

Out of despiration I have tried deleting all the files off the 60gig dms and copying the original files from the 10gig dms but unfortunately it just does the same thing.

Any thoughts on my problem?

Thanks in advance!

John

Are you saying the 10 gig drive doesn't work now either?

The 10gig drive works fine. So I know I have not broken anything.  ;)

I don't have a keg, so can't comment with certainty regrding the message that you see, but one thing that has tripped up a few people is the settings on the new drive.  The PC side will talk to the drive even when set up for slave mode or cable select.  The Phatbox / keg requires that the drive is set to master.  I suggest that you check any links on the drive against manufacturer's data.

Good luck.

Yep I have just checked that. Their are no jumpers in the drive its a Seagate which means its master. Actually their is a diagram on the drive indicating no jumpers means master.

I have just tried the DMS Hack and Repair CD from start to finish and its not worked again. Still when I put the new drive into the keg it tries to load the last track I was playing then after a while gives up and asks to eject. I followed the guide to the letter, the only bit it didnt do was when I put the original DMS into the keg I didnt get a "patching" message played. It just hung for 30 seconds then started playing my music but the music was broken up if you know what I mean.

I have noticed if the power goes to the keg I have to put the original hard drive back into the DMS to get it to work at all. Otherwise it does not recognise the kenwood head unit does not recognise the head unit at all. Does that have something to do with the forceupdate and forcesettings files?

I was thinking about trying the Patch Bootloader guide, but I can't understand what I need to do as I dont find it clear enough.

Please someone help me get this drive working finally.

John

Sounds to me like it's not really hacked and isn't seeing the new drive.... but I can't say that for sure unless you have a bootload.log or logfile.txt on the new drive

Tell you what, when I get in tonight I will start from the begining the old way without the new CD. I will get the bootload.log and logfile.txt

I know for 100% it was hacked before, but what if I accidently made the mistake of not deleting the forceupdate and forcesettings files from the DMS before putting it into the drive? I am not saying I have, but the number of times I have rebuilt the DMS I could have done it. I assume that would put the old firmware back onto the keg?

that doesn't matter... the thing that phatnoise calls a firmware is on the CPLD -- this firmware is in a different location

bootload.log on the new DMS drive contains the following:

"BOOT0-1: OK
BOOT0-2: Failed"

Thats all, which I guess is bad. lol

Yea it sounds like this one is missing part of the formware patch.   You probably require the 'keys' on that drive, but that can be fixed by just getting the newest version of the patcher and running it against your phatbox.

All Patched and working OK with the new 60 gig drive.

Thanks.
