It just doesn't turn on  .  I will see if maybe it's a VAG-COM setting I need to change on the VW.

You could also possibly have a bad cable....

Alright so here's an update...

I bought a brand new VW Phatbox off of ebay, used the same cables I had already tried with the Kenwood Music Keg, same DMS cartridges... and.... IT WORKS!!!  ;D

So now I'm confused.  I thought the only difference between the Kenwood Music Keg and the Phatbox was firmware.  According to my logs before... the VW firmware flashed onto the Keg completed just fine.  So what could possibly be the reason for the Music Keg flashed with VW firmware not being able to get the "turn on" signal from my VW Headunit?

Just as a background, I believe my Kenwood Music Keg KHD-CX910 is one of the very early ones sold with a 10GB DMS cartridge instead of the later ones that were sold with 20GB DMS cartridges.  Is there anything besides firmware that is different about these?  ???

there is no difference otherwise... perhaps your other one has something fried in internal connections etc... you could use a continuity tester to test all the internal lines from the cable to your 8051 chip...

So for kicks.... I started randomly browsing around to the older threads in this section... and I found this thread!

http://forum.phathack.com/index.php/topic,1161.0.html

So.... I decided to go home and try it.  Guess what... it works!!???

So my Music Keg is not fried.... it just has to use VW firmware 6.00.  Weird.  Anyway, I'm going to try hacking it now that I know it still works.  So the question is... why is it that the Music Keg will only work with VW 6.00 and not anything higher?  What is the difference between the Music Keg and the Phatbox in this regard?

I guess I now have to figure out which box I want to keep.

Very strange... only other instance of that I've seen... and I'd forgotten that one since he never replied after we asked about plugins

Well got both Phatbox and Keg hacked now.  Keg still only runs VW 6.0 firmware.  Tried upgrading it only to have it die again, so I re-flashed it back to VW 6.0.  It works... good enough for me for now I guess.
