Empty log files after hacking
« on: August 16, 2005, 05:02:29 am »
I have a VW 20GB Phatbox.  I tried loading using the CD method, but that never worked.  I swapped to the manual method, and tried using the startup sound method.  After patching, when I load up the DMS on my PC to check for the presense of the extra log files, the log files exist, but they are empty.  (they're 0-byte files)

I haven't gone any further in the process (Genesis was going to help me), so I thought I'd post on the forum and see if anyone had suggestions.  The hack might or might not have been loaded on the firmware - I can't tell b/c of the empty log files.

Ideas anyone?

If your box didn't shut down before you pulled out the DMS or cut power to it, it may not have flushed buffers to disk.   Feel free to run the patch again, it will tell you in the logs if it's applied or not and it will attempt to apply if it's not applied.  Make sure you turn off the head unit and wait for the lights on the box to go off before removing the DMS.

I definitely waited for the light to go out before pulling the DMS.  I let the patch run, waited a minute after the music started playing, turned the ignition off, and waited for the red light to go out before pulling the DMS.

Sounds like the startup sound isn't getting used / the flacplay script is not being called.

are you sure the path to the song is correct in the profiles.ini? /dos/data/pathtosongonphtdta
check that flacplay is a text file by opening it in notepad...
