DMS Doctor: aadec failed on MD5 checksum..
« on: August 18, 2005, 12:40:50 pm »
I searched (forum) for aadec, but results were not particularly relevent.

In a nutshell..
Patch to phatbox worked great.
But new DMS doesn't boot.
DMS doctor tells me MD5 check failed on aadec.sig all other tests pass.

what to do next. Wipe new DMS & try. Or run patch again.

The long version (bascially everthing I did....

Quote
I d/l the 1.4 iso & burned to cd-r.
Made sure that the only profile I had was 'Default'. I had a single profile 'RAUDI' (My persnaolised plates on the A4). That I renamed in PMM. Next I checked the files on the disk to be sure that the P & D in Profiles & Default were caps. And I checked that the active profile was Default.

Retart

Boot into phathack iso

Patched the OEM DMS. Took OEM DMS to car & 'unlocked' the phatbox. In other words, I heard the custom startup sound 'Your phatbox has been unlocked...'

Swapped drives in the DMS
continued procedure...

reboot to windoze
insert shiney new dms
start PMM & copy over a single album.
take new DMS to car.
'NO CD'

Check bootloader.log = empty (I pulled DMS out too soon I think).

OEM DMS still works. Still get unlocked message upon startup.

Run DMS Doctor on new DMS... aadec failed MD5 checksum

My thinking is to wipe the disk. And retry loading some music before going through with boot disk process again.

Yes? No?

Okay, run a chkdsk on your phtsys partition, you can have issues with the phatbox if you unplug it at the wrong time or if it reboots at the wrong time.

Also after the chkdsk, remove aadec and aadec.sig from the phtsys partition and retrive the backup copies out of /phtsys/backup and place them back in /phtsys

This should correct the DMS doctor messages.

Same thing with flacplay and flacplay.sig if you want to.

IIf these files are not there on the NEW DMS, I suggest reloading your firmware to the new DMS via PMM, and then removing the forceupdate file from phtsys so the box doesnt spend 5 minutes updating.

If that doesnt work, I'd ask you if this is a 20 gig VW / Audi DMS you copied from or what type of Source DMS did you use for the process?

chkdsk was fine

Ummm I didn't have a /backup folder in PHTSYS. Is this done manually? Or by the bootable CD?
Nevertheless, I copied PHTSYS from the OEM DMS to my dekstop & copied aadec, aadec.sig, flacplay, & flacplay.sig from the desktop backup to the NEW DMS.

Ran DMS Doctor. & Still got the MD5 fail on aadec. ??? This is very puzzling to me. Unless it's an NTFS <> FAT32 thing.

I did this after the MD5 failed on my backup. DMS Doctor sanctified the DMS. Yet..it still it does not boot.

Whats more, the bootload.log file is not being touched. MY first try after the firmware wizard, I had an empty bootload.log to begin with. So my next attempt (at booting in the car) I copied phat.ini (97kb) over bootload.log. After it failed to boot again, I examined bootload.log. The  file was still at 97k, and upon opening it, it was indeed the ini file.

When the unit is attempting to boot. The green LED blinks thusly

5 Slow
Pause
3 Slow
<Turn off>

5 Slow
Pause
4 Slow
<Turn Off>

5-pause-4 then repeats again & again. Never does the 'fast blink of death'

This is indeed a 20 gig VW/Audi DMS. Bundled with the phatbox player, which was purchased new from an Audi dealer's parts web site. Since the price on these things went to sub 200 bucks I could no longer resist.

My OEM DMS still works, but I'm afraid to let PMM touch it. (No reason in particular)

I suppose at this point I'll just try the whole boot  CD-R thing over again (sans the unlocking of the phatbox player) Unless there is something you want to see on the OEM or NEW DMS.

Edit: FWIW - I still have an Acronis True Image of the PHTSYS partition as it shipped from Audi (pre-patch).

The issue is the source DMS.  Something about the 20 gig DMS that ship with VW Audi phatboxes does not work properly with the DD method.. I dont understand it and dont have access to one to figure it out.

You'll have to find someone with a 10 gig DMS or a DMS that has been copied before and use the first 1 meg from it via DD to the new drive.  Follow the manual procedure that is listed on the wiki or the forums to do this.

Thanks for all the help.

Just my luck.

If I can pick up a 10gig cheap. You can have my 20gig 'for the good of the cause'.

Would there be any issue using a Kenwood DMS cartridge as a 'seed' if should locate one?

Edit: Do you wanna trade? A 10gig for this Audi 20gig?

Well, I'd imagine you could pick one up for cheap.. I only have one working 10 gig DMS as I broke another one I have somehow.  So no, I think loosing my only valid DMS would be a bad thing. :)  Someone on the forums might have one they are willing to part with.

I'm gonna live with the 20gb for the time being.

I've posted want ads on Audiworld, VWVortex, and eBay's want-it-now. And I set up a ebay search agent this morning.

If I get my hands on a 10gig & patch the 60 I purchased for this little project. I'll donate the 20gig to 'science'.

For a brief moment, I entertained the thought caving. But the mark-up for phatnoise is just too steep.
