I ran the hack disc yesterday to flash the Phatbox. I got to the point where it wanted the new driveand then I quit. Today I have a new drive so I ran the process again. It detects the correct volumes etc. and says its going to write the 1Mb and backup Phtsys but then gives a number of errors which include something about the file system being set to read-only. (Sorry but the message doesn't  stay long enough to read it all). If I use /runbuild it complains that it cant create /tmp/phtsys because it already exists and so I have start over but with the same results.

Where can I find a list of the changes made to the original disc? Can I then safely delete them and start again?

just replace the flacplay and flacplay.sig and aadec and aadec.sig in the root of the phtsys partition with the files in phtsys\backup

that will put it back to normal (you'll also need to remove the startup sound entry in phtdta\profiles\profiles.ini

I did that and I get the same errors (I think). Several about reading (or writing) beyond EOF and then a number and then Input/Output error. Do you think I should just rebuild the DMS? BTW its a 10Gb VW unit. (Very strange cos it worked the first time I did it)

I have no idea why it would be marked read only.  You might need to reformat the phtsys partition and reload the firmware to the drive.. just remove Forceupdate when you do.

OK I'll try that. No big problem really.
BTW the hack worked for me otherwise and I've used the manual method for the drive so I'm a happy chappy. Big UP to the team and many thanks for  all your efforts.
p.s. What is the recommended Windows equivalent to "DD"?

if you read the wiki or some of my early hack posts theres a link to a windows version of DD.
