I'm giving this process a try on an 08 Mazdaspeed with a Bose package, I'm not sure who the manufacturer of the head unit is, but its not been working thus far.

Any ideas?  Anybody here?

I just got a 2009 Mazdaspeed3 Sport. I know chance are slim for this working, but I'll ask anyways. Is it possible that I could get the Phatbox working with the stock stereo?

I'm afraid no-one is likely to know.  Bose packages won't be supported for sure.
