Complete DMS Backup Method???
« on: July 21, 2006, 10:29:10 pm »
Is there a way to make a complete DMS backup image? Now that i have my Audi PB with the Mazda Firmware working. i want to make a complete drive image copy. that way should the drive be come corrupted etc, i can erase the entire drive and recreate partitions exactly as they are now. Is that possible?

The drive signature should be on the original DMS, its the first 1 meg of the drive that should be copied into a file in the backup directory.  You need that.  There is also a windows way to backup the 1 meg of data via windows, its on the wiki.  you'll use dd to do it.

Also, just zip up the contents of the phtsys partition and save that.

The hack CD has the ability to rebuild the partition table correctly, you can't do it yourself in windows (it has to be properly offset so the 1 meg sig area doesn't get stomped on)

to be clear, ghost / drive image will NOT work to backup the DMS.  they haven't been reliable in leaving the partiiton offset correct.
