Max size

I'm a little confused on exactly what the max size of a DMS can be.  I have the VW Phatbox with 20GB DMS currently.  From what I've read there is a 127 GB limit in Phatnoise Media Manager.

Can someone verify what the max DMS size is for a drive swap?

No, the 127GB represents the maximum size drive for a DMS that does not use the LBA version of linux.
The DMS tools will determine the size of drive being used and install the appropriate version of this file for your drive.  I believe in theory *ANY* drive can use the LBA version, it's just I don't think anyone has actually tried it as it's only really necessary for drives > 127GB.

Some 250GB drives show problems with PhatNoise Media Manager due to the way they access/transfer data to the drives, but 250GB so far is the maximum tested and shown to be working in the PhatBox.

Technically the max size SHOULD be a few TB -- look up the limit of LBA48 and FAT32 for specific answers...

Good luck finding a PATA laptop drive that big though.

Actually FAT32 max size isn't that important... it could be gotten around, LBA48 is all that really matters... so the technical limit is 144 petabytes (144,000,000 gigabytes).

Not sure how well the phatbox would actually function with that much storage to choose from though    somebody find me a drive and I'll test it!

Ok, I just order a WD 250GB and have the DMS Tools 2.12 Beta.  Are the instruction at http://wiki.phathack.com/DMS_drive_swap still the best for the drive swap?

Confirmed.  I ran the LBA48 version for ages with an 80GB drive before my last upgrade. No issues at all. Just copied the new linux file over the old one and it worked.
