I finished the process. It says the new dms has to be verified by the phatbox before it will work. Please be more specific. Do i have to load the original dms in the car cradle or the pc cradle again ?

judb

I don't recall the exact text of the message you are talking about so its hard to say for sure but I think it means go try the new DMS in the phatbox.

Kat_Daddy

I have a kenwood, so what are u referring to wth phatbox ? The car cradle or pc cradle? I have been able to load songs but i have to wait a few days to test it i the car. BTW i tried to load some files onto the dms. It wont hold the 40 gigs its supposed to. More like 4, even though "my computer" sees it as a 40 gig drive. Can you explain ?

I believe what you are referring to is the final message displayed during the hack process. It reads like this:

You new DMS cartidge should be ready for use.
The PhatBox will only accept it after it has been
booted with the genuine DMS cartridge with the
flash software, and the first playlist has been
 activated.

This is really just a reminder informing you that the DMS will not work unless you've re-flashed your PhatBox using the ORIGINAL DMS drive with the flash hack applied to it (the re-flashing is the secret sauce to this whole process). You should have already performed the flashing of your PhatBox before you swapped the drive as outlined in the onscreen instructions.

If you've already done that, no need to do it again. If you skipped that step, you will need to put the original drive back into the DMS are re-apply the hack.

So by phatbox, which cradle are we talking about ? Anyway i guees i can test it when i get back. But that was the message i was referring to. Thanks for the info...

Music Keg = Phatbox = thing in your car you put your drive in to play music...

Cradle = thing hooked to your PC

ohh shit, so we actually changed the Working DMS. I borrowed that from a friend. Will it still work when he puts it back in his "phatbox" ? Also after i completed the process there were no songs on the new DMS, so i added some. I havnt had a chance to put the old working DMS in my phatbox. Do i need to redo the whole process ? Man i should have tried this with my car nearby....

judb

The process SHOULD not damage a working DMS even if you don't follow the directions correctly.

he may want to reinstall the firmware on his DMS to remove some of the changed executeables if he is not planning on hacking his phatbox / keg but it shouldn't be an issue for him.

Kat_Daddy

Okay directions seem alot clearer once i got the definitions straight  :P Ill redo the process, just to be safe. But after its done how do i reflash his drive/firmware back to original settings, after its all over.

If your friend does not want to hack his phatbox, then he should do a firmware update on the original DMS via PMM (the software for the phatbox).  That will put everything back to normal.  He should delete the files called "forceupdate" and "forcesettings" so he doesn't unnecessarily update the firmware on his phatbox when he puts it back in the car.

I got both DMS's tested and working in my box. Thanks for the help guys and the hack worked perfect. This is a small detail i noticed, normally when u plug in the DMS into the pc cradle, windows automatically recognizes it as a 10gig DMS and displays it in the add hardware bubble in the corner. It doesnt anymore. Anybody know why ?
